Back to School Picnic
The Back to School picnic on Friday, September 16, 2016, is an opportunity for Waterloo families to greet old friends and meet new ones. This is the first PTA sponsored event to kick off the new school year! Bring a picnic meal or order pizza that will be delivered directly to the school during the event. Enjoy games, prizes, and fun! Snow cones will be available for purchase!!
PTA Fall Fundraiser - Charleston Wrap
Help support our school year-round. Order between Sept. 23 and Oct. 7, 2016. The monies raised from this fundraiser are a significant part of the PTA budget and fund cultural arts, student assemblies, Game Night, and much more! For more details click here.
Each month, the PTA will hold a "Restaurant Night" at a different local restaurant. This is a time to bring the family together to enjoy a great meal and help support your Waterloo PTA. In order for Waterloo to receive credit, please bring a copy of the flyer, which you can print from the "Resources" tab with you.
Join us in January 2017 to celebrate reading and encourage a lifelong love of reading. Come listen to your favorite teacher or administrator share a great book. All students are welcome to enjoy this fun, free evening at Waterloo. Free bookmarks for all students who attend! (Harry Potter and the Grouchy Ladybug showed up last year!)
October 3-21, 2016, Waterloo will be collecting gently used or new coats for students in need. Waterloo supports the PTA Council of Howard County (PTACHC) by sponsoring a coat drive to provide local students and families in need with winter coats, hats, scarves, and gloves. Donations are collected in the Waterloo Lobby, and then dropped off at the PTACHC collection center.
To celebrate the Fall Fun Day at Waterloo, volunteers organize and distribute costumes to students who did not bring in their own costume. We have several boxes of costumes that have been donated over the years. Volunteers make sure the costumes are clean, sorted by size, and displayed in the cafeteria, so students can come by and choose a costume for the parade.
Join us on October 27, 2016! Come try a new game or enjoy an old favorite with your friends! There will be plenty of challenges and oodles of fun for the whole family, from preschoolers through adults. Games are set up in the cafeteria and art room with a volunteer who knows the rules. Please join us for this fun, free night and perhaps you will even win a prize.
Candy for the Courageous
We will be collecting extra Halloween candy from November 1-4, 2016, so that this candy can be donated to the USO at BWI airport. The extra candy will given to our military forces as they pass through BWI airport on their way around the world.
Come out and paint with family and friends in November, 2016 (stay tuned for the date). Our own art teacher, Mrs. Huff, will lead the group in creating painting masterpieces of fall themes in the cafeteria. Two different canvas sizes will be offered. It's lots of fun and very popular event - the spring paint night sold out in just three days!
The Read-A-Thon will run during the winter this year. Stay tuned for the dates! Students are asked to track how many minutes they read over the course of two weeks. (Reading includes homework reading assignments, listening for non-readers, and reading for fun.) The students are also requested to get reading sponsors. This is the PTA's major fundraiser for the school year and 100% of what we collect stays with the Waterloo PTA. Great prizes go to the top readers in each grade, the top class in each grade and the students that earn the most money to help our school.
Join us in February for a free, family night of fun as we highlight the many cultures of Waterloo as well as other places around the world! There are tasty treats in the cafeteria, booths from various countries in the gym, activities, and mini-concerts on the stage. Students (and their adults) are welcome to come in "International" attire. (This night is usually held the same night as the book fair and the silent auction - so it is an action packed evening!)
Each year the wonderful Waterloo staff donates unique experiences, activities, and items for auction. Community businesses generously donate as well. All proceeds support PTA-sponsored programs including Cultural Arts programs, classroom enrichment, and family involvement activities. (Lunch bunches, collecting the Orioles Game Day ball, "Principal" for the day... lots of great options!)
The Waterloo Spring Carnival is a community event that was initiated many years ago by the PTA. The event takes place on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 11 am-3 pm. Each year, there are games, inflatables, entertainers, a DJ, craft booths, cake walk, plant sale, and food vendors. The Waterloo PTA plans this event to provide a fun-filled day for all of the Waterloo families and surrounding communities.
Screen Free Week
From May 1-May 5, 2017, Waterloo will be participating in Screen-Free Week 2017. Instead of watching TV, DVDs, playing video games and playing computer (except if it is required for a homework assignment), families can read, play, think, create, get physically active, and spend more time with friends and family. In the evenings during Screen-Free Week, we will have on-the-spot prizes given out by the Prize Patrol, which will be made up of teachers and administrators. We will also have a picnic to celebrate the end of Screen-Free Week on Friday, May 6 from 5:30-7 PM. All are welcome to come and participate in the picnic and various activities. For those students (and families) who successfully completed the week by being screen-free, we will be having raffled prizes.
